After an incredibly long wait, the latest Mahindra Thar generation will all be unveiled tomorrow. This year’s launch was one of the most anticipated and Mahindra is receiving a lot from the new SUV.
Most specifically, because it’s not just the off-road enthusiasts who wait for it. Yes, this was expected by the carmaker and that is probably why the new Thar is a more robust and lifestyle design.
Well, Mahindra tries to modify The Thar’s identity and makes it more polished and elegant, but does not sacrifice its overall authoritative characteristics. Here’s what we know about Mahindra Thar in 2020 so far.
The spy shots have already shown that Thar would be considerably larger than its predecessor, but its boxy profile is still preserved. Then there will be known features as well as circular headlamps that will be fitted with black LED DRLs, LED door lights as well as a rear door mounted spare wheel and new 18-inch alloy wheels. You’ll also see Thar gravure on LED backlights and wing mirrors. It is available in hard and soft-top configurations.
As we said, the new Thar will not only serve hard-core off-road enthusiasts but will also provide good commuting comfort and the interior will be of crucial importance in making it easier to use. Recent surface spy photos give us a good idea of the ergonomics that the new cabin offers with easily accessible, well-stocked seats and controls.
You get fake carbon fibers around the air-con vents and you get a new automated climate control system. A great change is that the exposed sheet metal can hardly be seen, giving a better look to the cab than the previous edition. Even the doors have properly made bold and square pads in ‘Thar’ engraving and identical handling is also available in the footwells.
You can also see some trendy elements such as toggled switching buttons, black finish on air-conditioner windings, as you can see on other Mahindra models and the revamped steering wheel with possibly audio and phones.
It is expected that the cabin will also be updated appropriately to include a touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, power windows, remote lockers, two front airbags, rear car parking sensors, and a fast alarm system, among other items.
However, we ‘re not sure that Mahindra will provide integration options for smartphones such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the new Thar.
We expect petrol and diesel engines to be selected in the new Thar under this hood. The petrol motor is likely to have been Stallion’s 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and the turbo-diesel engine could be 2.2-liter.
Both engines should be fitted standard with a six-speed manual gearbox while an optional automatic transmission is offered. Naturally! Thar and off-road are synonymous so that a mechanical four-wheel-drive system with four-wheel drive modes is definitely available. We assume it will also be secured differently.
